Thesis Title: Mundane Practices and the Pursuit of Competitive Advantage.
Thesis Advisory Committee: Prof. Biswatosh Saha (Chair). Prof. Kaushik Roy, Prof. Sankalp Pratap
Thesis Motivation & Summary: Coming from a business family, I find a strong influence of society in the way Indian businesses operates. It motivated me to bridge sociological theories into mainstream management theories. In my thesis, I use the Practice lens to evaluate how the activity lens can illuminate previously overlooked aspect of designing practices to seek alignment among various highly distributed actors outside the firm boundary. These alignments are not through any strong contract, instead, are part of mundane daily practices which led to the building of a highly dynamic resource. I am conversing with Open Strategy literature to argue for the opening of resources that can result in continuous, active participation in core strategizing.
